                                    286log book was concerned as the first entry for her after marriage was %u201cFlt Lt(w) Maggs (Nee Williams)%u201d and there was not much space for that.She also had an instructor change so I did not fly with her so much after that.My other student on that course was Chris Gleave. He was having problems landing the aircraft and I was given him to help him along. He could not see how to aim the aircraft at the runway threshold while reducing speed and so he was given a couple of extra trips. I decided to do the Descending 2 trip that I had despised after my A2 and had rewritten when on exam wing. I took him into the low flying area and we spent half an hour flying approaches to Knapton Granary. We flew down towards it with gear and flaps down and overshot at about 250ft. He was sort of improving when we ran out of time. All the time we had been flying the cloud base had been coming down and I realised that we would have to go back at low level. So, I took control, and we flew down the Vale of Pickering and into the Vale of York at 250ft. He sat there and then said, %u201cthis is fantastic, I have got to be able to do this, now tell me what you said before%u201d. I never before or after had a reaction like that. He now really concentrated on the final approach when we got back and finally understood what was required. That was on a Friday, I sent him solo the next Monday. I felt he was one of my real successes. He went on to fly Harriers, was a member of the Red Arrows and was promoted to at least Group Captain.We used to have a PeD weekend with the students sometimes and Caroline%u2019s course went to the Lake District. I took our Topper sailing dinghyand Brian Saddler, another QFI, had a speedboat and so some of the students went with him water skiing. Alex came with her friend Jo, the daughter of an Armoury Sergeant, and they slept out in a little tent. I think the students quickly found that they would do various jobs for them for a bob or two.
