They could then sleep for a bit before getting into the hides they had prepared.Although the students were not to be fed, this was to encourage them to forage, their QFIs would often slip them something. Indeed, I can remember driving a few of them back in the Landrover at the end of the E & E exercise. They were all jumbled in the back with their kit and were cold. I passed back my small flask of coffee to them. The flask only had a small cup which they filled and passed round in the dark, then filled it up again. I told them they could finish it. They poured several more cups out and eventually decided it was a magic flask as they got so many cups full. On another occasion, on an early exercise before I settled on the final format we had got them back into the wood and gone home. I had a couple of hours sleep and decided to go back and see what they were doing. I found one of them had got some food from somewhere and left some of it for breakfast.
