Our Saudi colleagues couldn't drive (something about not being allowed within 100 miles of the Smoke because a relative had claimed diplomatic immunity after a road accident?) so came as passengers. Funnily enough, I don't have any recollection of seeing either Mugrin or Aziz Sudairy actually inside the Tournament building, but I do seem to remember Mugrin guiding us later through the streets of the West End to collect Aziz from some address. I also remember Mugrin being very generous and treating us to a slap-up meal in what I thought was an Iranian restaurant but it couldn't possibly have been, could it?Dave CockburnMiss World: Seamy or what?A notice went up asking for volunteers to join similar contingents from Sandhurst and Dartmouth to escort Miss World contestants at the closing dinner. Volunteers were to list their language proficiency. We were warned to be back on the coach by midnight for the return. I use the word %u201ccoach%u201d most generously %u2013 we were conveyed to this event which reeked of opulence and glitz in a RAF 39-seater coach whose thinly padded, uncomfortable seats could be removed quickly so that it could act as an ambulance.
