54%u201cSargent%u2019s Mess%u201dAt the RAF College in 1968 the RAF Form 5060 was used as a 'Staff in Confidence' living document designed to provide periodic assessments of progress of all pilots in basic flying training. To this end the core of a completed book would be the section containing all the written sortie reports for every dual flight, while flying the Jet Provost Mks 3 and 4. This was supported by over-viewed comments by the Flt Cdr and Sqn Cdr and Chief Flying Instructor if necessary. QFIs and those in the command chain would thus use the book as a fault recorder and corrector whilst managing the student%u2019s welfare and monitoring his progress. The student would never see the written reports.SQUADRON COMMANDER%u2019S COMMENT28 Feb 68 Don't let this cadet think he%u2019s good because he%u2019s an SUO. If necessary humiliate him.
