269pulled out, hooded and pushed to a collection area before being forced into the back of a 3-ton lorry. We were driven about for a bit and then pushed onto a boat which motored around for a while before offloadingus. This was a bit of a worry as I didn%u2019t want to be thrown in the sea. I think that we were driven somewhere else and then pushed into a building with some kind of motor running. This made white noise that was disorientating. We had to stand in various uncomfortable positions or sit similarly. If you tried to get more comfortable, you were firmly put back how they wanted you. It was all quite painful and I was worried about how long my back could take it. I could hear people coming and going and eventually it was my turn. Taken into a room where two men were standing and they slowly made me strip naked. As each article was removed, they asked what it was called so that they could log it correctly. We were only allowed to give our name, rank, number and date of birth. Eventually I was naked and the questions continued. Finally, I was given my boots back without any laces and another flying suit to wear. Then back to the engine room.I was interrogated a number of times. Each time I wanted to stay in the interrogation room for as long as possible whilst keeping to the name, rank, number, I cannot answer that question, format. We were being trained to cope with soviet techniques. It was stressed that these were not the techniques that we would use. Somehow, that message got lost over time as was shown in the Gulf War. Being shouted at and insulted was no problem, after all I was an ex Cranwell cadet and we got a lot worse than that for lengthy periods of time. The problem sometimes was to keep from smiling.Eventually I was taken out and the hood taken off. The boss of the school (I think Pete Hearn) was standing in front of me smiling and I knew it was over. He had been a navigator on my Nimrod Squadron at one point.
