311The squadron repeated this visit the next year and we told the crews going to buy some of this cognac as it was first class. They were told they could not go to that distillery as the proprietor was in prison for tax evasion. I was not too surprised as it was all so blatant. In November I got abroad again. Goodness knows how that happened, but we went to Pisa via Dijon. I had Kev March with me. I cannot remember how many of us went but I can remember having lunch very near the leaning tower. The food was excellent and then we asked for some cheese. They had a Blue soft cheese that they provided. We spent most of the afternoon sitting eating it and drinking wine. The bill for cheese doubled or more the price of the meal. We came back via Lyon. The plan had been to just do a straight in approach and formation landing as this was a busy civilian airport. However, when we arrived there was a very strong crosswind which was well beyond the limit for a formation landing. We would have to do a run and break but ATC did not know what we were talking about, so we just did it. A nice low break and landing. As the aircraft were being refuelled, we went into the main airport for a bit. People immediately came up to us and congratulated us on our aerobatic arrival. We felt quite proud. I had another gifted student that year. He is in my log book as APO Steve Pemberton but he may not have been an APO. I got lazy accurately recording the students%u2019 ranks and just wrote down APO for most of them. Towards the end of his course, we went to Dijon for the night which must have been a bit of a reward for him. He was one of the students that you hardly had to teach. Just one demonstration and they knew what to do. We were now flying low level navex%u2019s in fighting wing which was interesting. You not only had to keep an eye on where you were but also the other aircraft. We made good use of the Tucano%u2019s range capabilities and flew 2 hour plus sorties at low level. I had high hopes for him once he got to Valley and he did end up on Jaguars.
