315gage from Aeroview of %u00a347. I think the idea was that if we ever needed to borrow money, it was much easier to re-mortgage the house than start from scratch. We moved in just before I left the RAF and so I had a few days driving to work from York which felt a bit strange. When I got back from Paris, I put on my final barrel of beer, handed my watch and all other documents in and finally gave my ID card to a young girl in SHQ and walked off the base, knowing that I could not walk back on again easily. I felt a bit let down by that, but my RAF career was finally over.My RAF log book is a history of the RAF in itself. I had served on a number of RAF Stations that have now closed, namely Gaydon, Manby, Oakington, Strubby, Ballykelly, 4AEF Exeter, St Mawgan, Kinloss, Linton on Ouse, andChurch Fenton. And of course I have landed and taken off and stayed at many more. Abroad I served in Sharjah, Singapore, Canada, Zimbabwe, USA, Germany, Gibraltar. I had amassed a total of 10,056 hours and had recorded flights in 20 different types of aircraft. The most hours had been accumulated in the Jet Provost, Nimrod, Tucano, and Shackleton. I ended as an A1 QFI which was annotated against my name in the RAF list.
