42and had therefore not had his own cue to order the Standard to march on. A Standard is never marched on without the troops being at attention. What was I to do? Usually the Standard Bearer issues orders in a low tone to his Standard Party. In a loud voice, I bawled out %u201cStandard Party %u2013 Atten-shun%u201d. Mitch got the hint, brought the troops to attention and then ordered the Standard Party to march on. The parade then continued more or less without a hitch - Colin notwithstanding. Much to our surprise, despite this %u201cliberty%u201d with the Drill manual and Colin%u2019s error, we were adjudged the winners. David ForsythLoitering with IntentOne of our drill instructors in D Squadron was Flight Sergeant Flight. In one of his previous existences in the Royal Air Force, Flight Sergeant Flight had done a lot of flying in Beverley aircraft. As aircrew or as a passenger, I never knew. The Beverley was an interesting aircraft. It shared a lot of its heritage with the Route Master London bus. I suspect that its aerodynamic design had been heavily influenced by the Route Master. It has similar aerodynamics and the cruising speed was not so terribly different.
