                                    7THE RAF IN THE FALKLANDS CAMPAIGNRAF MUSEUM, HENDON, 8th APRIL 2003WELCOME ADDRESS BY THE SOCIETY%u2019S CHAIRMANAir Vice-Marshal Nigel Baldwin CB CBE FRAeSLadies and GentlemenIt is a pleasure to see so many of you here this morning %u2013 the firsttime, I think, that we have had a full auditorium with some 180 memberspresent.Before I introduce our Chairman for the day, let me say my usualthanks to Dr Michael Fopp and his staff here at the Museum, forallowing us to use their excellent facilities and helping us so much withthe production of the day.Our Chairman today is Air Marshal Sir John Curtiss. In 1982, he wasAOC 18 Group, the maritime Group with its Headquarters atNorthwood. During the Falklands campaign, he was the DeputyCommander-in-Chief (deputy to Admiral Sir John Fieldhouse). But hewas also the Air Commander, and thus the most senior airman in theoperational chain of command. He controlled all of the RAF aircraftassigned to the conflict other than those embarked. We could have nobetter person to keep today%u2019s disparate crew of speakers under control.Sir John %u2013 over to you.
