                                    242heart problem. I remember that I had decided to go to stores and buy some new socks when gabby phoned up and told me he had died. I was totally stunned. I bought the socks in a daze and went home. Apparently, he had gone to the hospital for an ESG and while lying on the table had had an aneurysm and that was that. Gabby and I went down to Millford on Sea to help Mum sort out some things and the funeral, but we thought that the children were too young. Something that the boys certainly haven%u2019t forgiven us for. There was a church service, although Dad was not at all religious. Humanist funerals had not been thought of at that time. After the church bit Mum and the guests, there were lots of them, went back to her house while Jill, Jane and I accompanied Dad to the crematorium for a very short service and farewell. Mum had not wanted to go but we felt we had to see him off. When we got back to the house the wake was still in progress and we had lots of condolences from the remaining members of the %u201cThundering Hurd%u201d. This was the nickname for the Bookham friend with whom Mum and Dad had had so much fun over the years. Mum passed on some of Dad%u2019s money to us and the children. We bought a Topper Sailing Dinghy with it. Alex eventually bought a horse. Sometime later Aunty Winnifred (Dad%u2019s cousin) contacted me and asked me to be her next of kin. I eventually took out a power of attorney and ran her affairs for her. We all loved her and visited her occasionally, when she always produced little cakes that the children thought to be super. When she realised she needed to go into some sheltered accommodation she invited Jill, Jane and me to go around her house and take anything we wanted. She had never married and had been a senior nurse tutor. When she died, I had to sort out her will and distribute her estate. She left me a little money which we used to start paying for our French house.One way to get over the tedium of teaching poor students was to fly the weather ship.
