96ting to wanted to go to Singapore to see her boyfriend and John said we could take her. At one point the girl I was chatting to left and the Padre said to me %u201cgo and see she is OK%u201c. I found her being sick against a palm tree and asked if she wanted to go back to her quarters. %u201cNo,%u201d she said, %u201cI haven%u2019t finished my beer%u201d. I don%u2019t know what time we finished but the next morning I was sick before I did the take off. Not something I was very proud of. We were supposed to do a 6 hour trip back but Ben said that John was sick so we would do a straight transit. It turned out he had piles and could not sit down, no doubt because of all the beer we had drunk. Ben sent a signal back to Singapore saying that our first Nav was sick and so we would be coming straight back. The nurse came with us dressed in a very snazzy flight suit. She was very pretty but with a terrible Australian accent which was a bit off putting. Anyway, I flew the return journey and when we taxied in saw that there were medical staff waiting for us. The first person off the aircraft was the nurse who rushed down the steps and away to find her boyfriend. Seeing her, our medics rushed up assuming John was really sick and arrived at the top of the stairs just as John started carefully down. %u201cOut of the way%u201d they shouted, %u201cthere is someone very sick in there%u201d. Poor John, he spent the next few days lying on his front in his room. As our rooms were surrounded by the main mess area, he said that he could hear the waves of sympathy floating down from the bar every evening. We were now due to go home but the crew taking over from us had won the Aird White trophy which was a competition for UK maritime squadrons and were now going to represent the RAF in the Fincastle trophy which was between Australia, Canada, New Zealand and us.
