115And do you know what? After about the third circuit round the apron you could hear the locks locating one by one with a clunk, and all the corresponding green lights illuminated on the engineer%u2019s panel. I recall that word had spread, and that quite a crowd of personnel had gathered to watch the fun and games, and to shout out suitable comments and encouragement! Luckily, this rather vocal crowd did not include the Station Commander. Anyway, there was huge relief, much giggling but deadpan faces when the slip crew arrived to take the aircraft back to RAF Brize Norton. The story must have done the rounds within 10 Sqn because, for months afterwards, whenever we handled a VC10 in the freighter role, we were reminded by the Loadmaster of the order in which to carry out the turn-round activities. Finally, someone out there does have photographs to prove that this tale really is true. So, if you are that person who had the camera and photographs, please get in touch!
